mind the gaps

As a visual artist, I will offer my art project mind the gaps as a participatory interaction with interested parties. It is about the art of repair in the broadest sense. I invite people from the region to participate in this creative process. No previous knowledge of handicrafts is necessary, everyone is welcome, and people of all ages can participate.

Using handcrafting techniques, we lovingly turn our attention to holes in textiles. As we close, border, fill, or transform them in the most beautiful ways, we celebrate the tears and breaks in our lives and talk about the gaps that need to be closed. This art project is about literally closing these gaps and addressing them with community. The project is based on the idea that we all have holes in our lives, and that we can close them together. The project is open to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or background.

The holes for the art project mind the gaps already exist—in this case, in collected clothing, table and bed linens, and memorabilia. I ask all interested parties to bring a textile hole that is worth closing and, if necessary, can also be given away. It can also be a piece of fabric that has been cut out. If you have any questions, please feel free to write to me.

I show the installation “Susurri Totenkrone” (Whispering Death Crown).
Death crowns are the materialized question of what value our lives have. The sculpture made of HT pipes symbolizes a network, a web through which the energies and information that determine our lives circulate. This work is a visual reflection of these connections as well as those to past and future generations. According to physicists, information is not lost because it describes the state of a system. Even when forms dissolve, their patterns remain as invisible signatures in the universe. Thus, death is not disappearance, but transformation. “Susurri Death Crown” is a visualization of consolation. It shows that our information remains connected when we die.

NEXT LEVEL SHIT | Installation
NEXT LEVEL SHIT ...

Acquisition for the Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania Art Collection 2024

FUTURE of past | 2023 | Installation
found | ongoing work since 2017 | Edition
Two works of my artistic work have been part of the art collection of the state of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania since 2024. My work “FUTURE of past” (2023) and an edition of my work “gefunden” (found), which has been ongoing since 2017, are now part of the state's art collection.

I was particularly pleased with the studio visit by two representatives of the state's art commission, Dr. Merete Cobarg and Dr. Katrin Arrieta, and a representative of the Ministry of Science, Culture and European Affairs of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania, Marthe Ruhnau and the editor Juliane Fuchs from Kultur-MV.

The installation “FUTURE of past” is a 54-part word art from 2023, created in my work with Maurinmühle and for the local time exhibition in the St. Laurentius Church in Schönberg.
The characters look familiar, like writing. But only three words are legible: FUTURE of past. The other elements form symbols for the viewer. In the attempt to decipher these simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar signs, we read our own history. Approaching our common history with our hearts and intuitions is also an approach to our common truth. Gilding reflects this highest value.

„gefunden“ ist eine fortlaufende Arbeit, mit der ich 2017 begann. Sie besteht aus einzelnen, verlorenen Handschuhen und Kontaktanzeigen aus der Zeitschrift Magazin. Gezeigt wurde sie u.a. im Künstlerhaus Dortmund (2022) und in der Kunsthalle Rostock (2023).

Romanticism celebrates emotion, people's longing and a greater power to which we as human beings must subordinate ourselves. While modernity declares facts to be reality, romanticism romanticism offers a refuge to this. In this duality, our evaluations are permanently subject to the decision to carry them out as romantics or as analysts. As a result, a part of us is always left out.

Floßfest in Tribsees – romantic zone

Raft party in Tribsees
"romantic zone"

Art event with DRITTVARIABLE and the Tribsees Women's Association
Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15, 2024
Water hiking rest area Tribsees
Nordquebbe, 18465 Tribsees
Before this summer turns into fall, there will be a special celebration. We will all enjoy the outdoors and indoors, each other and the peace and quiet together.
I've wanted to build a raft for a long time. The women of Tribsees have been telling me for a long time that they miss one of their old footbridges over the Trebel when they go for a walk. So what could be more obvious than building a raft to take you across the Trebel?
Nothing. So that's what we're doing. On Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 10 a.m., at the water hiking rest area in Tribsees. And we are the Drittvariable (Lena Biesalski, Felix Fugenzahn, Susanne Gabler, Christian Schönwälder). Because we know how to build something touchingly beautiful. And our special guest Sofie Wagner from NUKO Wismar is supporting us in this project.
And we are not alone. The Tribsees Women's Association is also part of this wonderful and whimsical art project. Because I thought that our raft needed a sail and the women spent weeks crocheting it just for that and now it shines in old pink and white and so that we can really sail slowly - because that's what we want - it has a big hole in the middle that we can see through. We see the most beautiful landscape in the Trebel valley and enjoy discovering the details and the new.
To ensure that the raft floats, we hope that everyone has brought along the floating objects that we are asking for by Saturday (canisters, PET bottles, bouncy animals and balls to sit on).
We are doing all this in Tribsees because the moonlight painter Louis Douzette was born there 190 years ago and we want to celebrate this additional romantic anniversary in our homeland this year (Louis meets Caspar).

Exhibition "Constructed Nature"

Changing landscapes in contemporary art

I am showing my new work "Susurri southwest". It was created during a working stay in Los Angeles from March to April 2024 and addresses our questionable treatment of nature as a result of our way of life. I captured the resulting ecological catastrophes in images that subtly point to the irretrievability of intact nature in the midst of these impressively beautiful landscapes. Each of these landscapes has lost the innocence with which it once offered us sustenance.
Susurris embedded in these landscapes offer to listen to the landcapes

concept:
We are overriding something of which we are a part - nature. To stretch its laws, we need machines - built - with materials - from resources. In constant supply or delivery of these, our supply is most strictly dependent on connections. Pipes aptly symbolise this reality.
And in a wonderfully captivating way, the Susurris absorb the resonances of the space around them and by listening to their openings they primarily offer a connection to themselves.
